Seniors - Fire Safety for Caregivers

Fire Safety Checklist

  • Each household should have:

    • An Ionization alarm on every level, and in bedrooms.
    • A photoelectric alarm near the kitchen.
    • A Carbon Monoxide alarm (or combination carbon monoxide and smoke alarm) on every level
    • A fire extinguisher on each level, ensuring there's one in the kitchen, garage, and in your car and boat.
    • Either a fire escape or a safety ladder in each 2nd-storey bedroom.

If the occupants would be unable to escape using a 2nd-storey safety ladder, it's strongly recommended that their bedroom is moved to the ground floor.
