Make sure that you only use festive lighting where it's supposed to be used: Don't use outdoor lights inside your home, and don't use any lights on a metal Christmas tree.
Ensure that your Christmas decorations are all made of non-combustible materials. Decorations made from real dried pine can be beautiful, but they can also catch fire very quickly.
If you have a real Christmas tree, ensure that it's kept well-watered, in a non-tip stand. If it starts to dry out, it can become very combustible, so store it a safe distance from your house when you take it down!
Christmas isn't the only holiday of common fire hazards: Make sure that all Halloween costumes are made from fire-resistant materials.
