Parents & Teachers - Fire Safety Around the Home

The No Kid Zone

Whenever you're dealing with anything that has to do with heat—be it fire, hot water, or even seemingly innocuous things like heaters—there's always a danger that something might be bumped, knocked, or misused in a way that can start a fire or cause a serious burn.

  • To prevent this, it's good to establish a 'No Kid Zone' that extends 3 feet (90cm) from any potentially dangerous heat source.

This includes the stove, the fireplace, electric heaters, kettles, candles, or things that contain highly flammable liquids like gas cans or oil-fuelled lamps.
